Promenading: Napier’s Iconic Marine Parade Walking Tour
ASSOCIATED EVENT
Hawke’s Bay historian and author Michael Fowler has researched Napier’s Marine Parade for nearly 20 years and has an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of it. Michael will tell stories including when the sea used to invade the Napier business district, attempts to stop it by the seawall, artificial reclamation attempts of the foreshore, escaping prisoners from the local gaol, shark attacks, and the splendour of the Art Deco Soundshell from the tragedy of the 1931 Hawke’s Bay earthquake. The tour takes around 75 minutes.
