Scinde Island House Tour
Step back in time with an exclusive tour of one of Napier’s oldest homes! Scinde Island House offers a rare and compelling portrait of life in Napier before the earthquake of 1931 when Mataruahou, the Napier Hill, was an island connected to the mainland by a narrow shingle spit. Discover the history of the island and the house through the many relics on display, and hear about the family who evacuated to the beach following the earthquake. Your tour concludes with a cup of warming tea or coffee at a local dining venue.
Duration 1.5 hours. Please note that this is a walking tour to Scinde Island House from the Art Deco Centre (approx. 10 minutes). A warm coat and sensible walking shoes are required. You will also be required to climb stairs within the house.
